Faith in Life Series: Contemplating the Cross

It is said that the cross is a great contradiction.  Death and life, hate and love, violence and peace, accusation and forgiveness, sin and purity, brokenness and wholeness.  All is lost, yet everything is gained; destruction and restoration, defeat and victory, brutal and ugly and the greatest story ever told.  The cross defines Christianity and reveals the character of God and man… it should be deeply understood and meditated upon.

“The way of the cross is still the pain-wracked path to spiritual power and fruitfulness.” - A.W. Tozer

Exodus, Part 2

Exodus, the second book of the Old Testament, continues the narrative begun in the book of Genesis.  We find God’s chosen people, Israel, living in Egypt. Although they originally came as honored guests because they were Joseph’s family, they have multiplied in number and been enslaved by the Egyptians. Exodus tells of God’s redemption of Israel from this bondage, and of His guidance of the people to the land of promise. God’s purpose in history is revealed through this account of redemption, covenant, and the building of the tabernacle, all of which picture God’s plan that would be fulfilled through Jesus Christ.  The final lessons cover selected portions of Numbers, Deuteronomy and Joshua, showing how Israel finally settled in the land of promise under Joshua’s leadership.

A Study of Colossians & Philemon (Continued)

Colossians was written for people like us, but during the first remarkable years in the early church. The same Holy Spirit who inspired Paul to write these letters can teach us what they mean and how to apply them to our lives. Paul always wrote with special care to celebrate the absolute supremacy of Jesus Christ, and richly so in Colossians. It is amazing to see Paul’s love and insight as he writes to a church he had never been to!  In Colossians, he also corrects some soul-destroying errors in theology and teaches us how to live for Christ in our daily relationships. In Philemon, Paul addresses a delicate interpersonal conflict within the church and helps us to see how to honor God in restoring a relationship.

A study guide, Continue to Live in Him, will be used in addition to class lectures and will be a helpful guide for daily reading, meditation, and memorization of Scripture. The author of the study guide, Kathleen Nielson, testifies to how serious study of the Word of God has kept her focused, growing, and alive in the deepest ways. The process of studying the Word…seeing the shape of a book from the Bible and the passages in it…guided by the Spirit of God should truly feed our souls, and transform our lives!

This is a ten-week study with five lessons in the fall and five in winter-spring.

A Study of 1 Peter

Our inheritance through Christ is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading. In 1 Peter, a man of faith and flaws and eyewitness to the life of Christ challenges us to look beyond our current circumstances to a future inheritance. He shares his concerns on big picture issues for the early church, describes believers' true identity in Christ, and ultimately helps readers discover what it means to experience the Living Hope they have in Christ.

Key themes of humility, submission, and identity in Christ guide the study of 1 Peter as participants are challenged to read the book in its entirety each week.

This study includes a workbook and video teachings by Jen Wilkin.

A Study of the Book of Acts: True Kingdom Building, Part 1

What truly builds the Kingdom of God?  This twenty-two week verse-by-verse study through the books of Acts helps us to consider what true Kingdom building really is.  Our entrance into God’s Kingdom is through Jesus Christ, and the Word of God is our blueprint for building.  When Jesus appeared before His disciples at the beginning of Acts, He told them to wait to receive the power of the Holy Spirit.  We will explore God’s plan for His Kingdom and our part in seeking His Kingdom first, empowered and directed by the Holy Spirit.

The Gospel of Matthew

Do you long for the return of the King? The first of the Gospels, Matthew, is a bridge between the Old Testament with its longings and pleas for the coming Messiah to the reality of the Messiah's rule over the new kingdom of God, the Church. Join us as we explore what Matthew tells us through the Holy Spirit about the answers to our longing hearts, both then and now. Matthew's Gospel about this Jewish King Who fulfilled all the prophecies is not just for the Jews but for everyone in every place and at every time.

His message that Jesus is the King Who was and is and is to come is the answer to our hearts' deepest needs.
